Graduate Teaching Assistant in Economics

Graduate Teaching Assistant opportunity available now in the Department of Economics

The Department of Economics is pleased to offer a Graduate Teaching Assistant post allowing those applying for entry to our PhD programme to finance their studies through part-time teaching work within the University. Applicants should have already completed, or be about to complete, a Masters degree in economics and should be able to demonstrate a strong interest in research and the potential to become high quality teacher.

Potential applicants must contact the Department well before applying to allow time to negotiate a viable thesis topic which the Department is able to supervise.

Graduate Teaching Assistant Role

Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs) and Graduate Research Assistants (GRAs) are full-time postgraduate students registered for a PhD at the University of Leicester. They are contracted for a four-year period (subject to annual review) to undertake departmental duties averaging no more than one day per week over the full calendar year.

The total package will cover tuition fees (at the UK/EU rate only) with an annual stipend worth up to £14,000 (approx.) each year over four years. The successful candidate will also receive a Research Training Support Grant worth £750 each year.

Entry Requirements

We welcome suitable applications from both UK/EU students and from international students (outside the EU). However, please note that international students will receive a reduced level of funding. The post is available to full-time students only.
