3.5 Teaching and Demonstrating
There may be opportunities for you to undertake teaching or demonstrating work depending on your discipline. Postgraduate researchers usually find this a valuable experience – although it is important to ensure that this, like any other work you undertake, does not interfere with your research. Duties associated with teaching or demonstrating should take up no more than six hours a week. Full-time research students who wish to undertake any other paid work should speak with their supervisor and Head of School/Department.
Before you start teaching or demonstrating, you should contact the Academic Practice Unit for advice on support and training for those new to teaching duties. The Academic Practice Unit can also provide advice on support and resources for those undertaking formal teaching duties associated with the role of Graduate Teaching Assistant.
