1.0 You, Your, Supervisor, and the Supervisory Relationship
Obviously every postgraduate researcher's experience is unique, but you are likely to find that undertaking a research degree is quite different from your previous experience of higher education. You may feel this particularly strongly if you are unfamiliar with the British higher education system.
Many postgraduate researchers find it difficult at first to adjust to the different expectations associated with this level of study. In particular, they are likely to be unsure exactly what to expect from their supervisor and the supervisory relationship.
Both you and your supervisor have particular responsibilities, and it is important that you understand what these are if your relationship is to be effective.
