The University of Leicester is a leading provider of postgraduate education in the UK. We were named Times Higher Education University of the Year 2008-2009 and ranked 14th in the UK (out of 120 institutions) by both the Guardian University Guide and the Times University Guide. We are also in the top twenty of the Independent’s Good University Guide. This reflects the fact that our students benefit from the University’s strong track record and expertise in providing postgraduate education and producing internationally-regarded  research.

• The research conducted by the University has the strongest impact of any Midlands university and the tenth greatest impact amongst universities in England according to the Guardian (30th October 2007). Overall the University is ranked 20th for its research out of 130 universities

• The University has responded to the UK Research Councils’ joint statement on skills training requirements for research students by providing a range of opportunities for training at departmental, faculty and University level. The training offered helps students to complete their degree and also enables them to acquire skills which are attractive to employers

• The quality of our postgraduate teaching has been judged by the government’s Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) to be among the best in the country, and all departments assessed by the QAA since March 1998 have been rated as excellent, a record which just one other university has been able to match

• We have more than 7,000 students studying by distance learning. The University’s distance learning programmes are flexible, high quality, recognised worldwide and focussed on our students and their needs
