  • Executive Editor, Palaeontologia Electronica (from 2008)
  • Manuscript Reviews Editor, Palaeontologia Electronica (1997-2008). With a small group of like-minded colleagues established this journal de novo, based on a new model of completely free access internet publication.
  • Natural Environment Research Council Peer Review College, full member of (2003-2007)

  • Palaeontological Association (1994-2005, 2008-2011): Vice-President 2003-2005; Publicity Officer, then Internet Officer 1996-2003, currently Publicity Officer.
  • The Micropalaeontological Society (1998-2001): Council member and Conodont Group Chair.
  • Pander Society (since 1996): I established and run the Pander Society website and the con-nexus listerver, facilitating international communication among conodont researchers; also involved with editing Annual Newsletter.
  • Invited participant in British Council International Networking of Young Scientists (INYS) workshop on 'Biodiversity: perspectives from deep time' (March 2006, Stockholm)
  • Member, Scientific Board of European Society for Evolutionary Developmental Biology
