University Teaching Fellow 2009/10

Awarded at graduation July 2009 "In recognition of his inspiring and imaginative teaching and his involvement in national initiatives which promote student learning in Geology." Streaming video clip.

I am module co-ordinator for and teach four modules:

  • GL2030 Mineral Deposits A - An introduction to ore minerals and how to identify them, and the geology of relatively simple mineral deposits and how they formed
  • GL2036 Ore Suite Report - A detailed study of a single ore deposit and writing a scientific report on it
  • GL3035 Mineral Deposits B - An advanced course on the geology of some more complex mineral deposits and how they formed
  • GL4025 Ore Genesis - A quantitative examination of the processes operating in the formation of mineral deposits

I also teach on:

  • GL1018 Geology & Society – How to build an ore deposit and the Guinness Book of Ore deposits – an introduction to mineral deposits
  • Various field teaching – usually Arran GL1021 or the Alps GL4005.

Some selected recent 4th year (MGeol) projects I have supervised:
