Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP)
The Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP) is an international marine research program that monitors subseafloor environments and explores Earth's history and structure recorded in seafloor sediments and rocks. IODP builds upon the earlier successes of the Deep Sea Drilling Project (DSDP) and the Ocean Drilling Program (ODP). IODP greatly expands the reach of these previous programs by using multiple drilling platforms, including riser, riserless, and mission-specific-platforms (MSP) to achieve its scientific goals.
The University of Leicester is a lead member of the European Petrophysics Consortium (EPC). Through the EPC, the IODP research staff at the University of Leicester provide worldwide support and expertise in the fields of downhole logging, core petrophysics and coreālog integration, in particular for MSP operations, but also for the non-riser JOIDES Resolution platform through collaboration with the Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory-Borehole Research Group.
Our researchers participate at international meetings and communicate their research through peer-reviewed publications.
Facilities: Geotek MSCL-S, Geotek MSCL XYZ, Geotek P-Wave Frame, Core wall, GeoFrame v.4.2, WellCAD, Strater 2
