Geographical Information Science

This module provides an introduction to geographical information science and also to geospatial technologies more generally.

The course has been designed to look at opportunities presented by GIS in both physical and human geography domains. The course will cover different styles of mobile digital data collection in addition to covering both  ‘traditional’ quantitative GIS representational and analytic methods and exploring qualitative digital locative representation (e.g. incorporating audio & visual materials). There will be a choice of practical project, allowing you to focus on your preferred methodological approach. The module will have input from both the physical and human geography teaching teams.

Assessment will be by:

  • Student-led MCQ exercise, where the quality of student devised questions are marked by staff;
  • GIS practical project
