I moved to the University of Leicester in 1973, after completing my first appointment at the University of Strathclyde (Glasgow). Since then I have moved through Senior Lecturer and Reader posts in the Department of Geography to my present chair as Professor of Human Geography.
Research Interests
My recent research interests have included endogenous agricultural development, sustainable rural development, the geography of food, speciality food products, and the disposal of urban wastes on agricultural land. Specific research projects in hand are focussed on (1) the development of speciality foods within the food supply system; (2) discourses in the development of genetically modified organisms (GMO); and (3) local rural development within the European Union.
