Research Associate in Geography
for the EAGLE project: 3D building modelling with LiDAR data to support a web-based renewable energy rating platform Salary Grade 7 - £30,870 to £35,788 Fixed term contract for 22 months Ref: SEN00226
The EAGLE project comprises a consortium of 13 members including SMEs and research institutions across Europe. The objective of the EC FP7 EAGLE project is to enable SMEs to increase their market penetration in the design, manufacture and installation of renewable energy technologies, through an intelligent web-based, renewable energy rating platform. The key core module (platform) deliverable of the EAGLE will have the capability to automatically generate an accurate 3 dimensional building-scale model based on LIDAR data, vertical stereophotogrammetric aerial photographs, Ordnance Survey (UK) / Cadastral data and solar irradiation maps.
The goal of the European Commission EAGLE project is to develop a workable methodology based on remote sensing and other geospatial data to identify candidate roof spaces for the development of a prototype software system to be used for the benefit of SMEs concerned with harnessing solar energy in urban environments. Specifically the researcher will collaborate with colleagues at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in Work Package 1 ‘Preparatory research’ and Work Package 2 ‘Image processing and 3D building model generation’ as well as liaise with the SME associations involved in the project.
