Green Impact

Welcome to the Department of Geography Green Impact pages, here you will find up to date information on how the team and the department are getting involved in the scheme and how you can help.

As a Department, we need to demonstrate a measurable  increase in our  pro-environmental behaviours. The specific behaviours targeted through the programme include:

  • improved  energy management
  • increased recycling
  • lower carbon footprints

This is a self-assessment process which involves us completing a workbook about the green activities that we will be implementing.

The Department of Geography is immensely proud to have achieved a Gold Impact Award for the second year running. This reflects on the strong interest and commitment to sustainability that is shown across all aspects of our departmental work. As well as teaching about sustainability, it is also central to several of the research programmes being carried out by our academic and research staff. Most important of all, however, we have seen an amazing level of commitment and enthusiasm for the green award scheme from our students. They are the ones who have really pushed us all to think and act in ways which reduce our departmental carbon footprint.
