Bioethics Briefing No 5:Stem Cells

- Image of a stem cell
Stem cells have the potential to develop into different cell types in the human body and as such, can be used for tissue repair or, perhaps in the distant future, for the creation of spare body parts perhaps. This briefing provides background on stem cell, the two different types of stem cells (adult and embryonic), and the ethics involved in using them. It also covers some of the hype that has surrounded the possibilities claimed for stem cells.
