Background
Peter Meacock was raised in Chelmsford, Essex, and studied Chemistry (BSc) and Microbiological Chemistry (MSc) at the University of Newcastle –upon-Tyne. He was a Junior Technical Officer with the MRC Microbial Genetics Unit in the Department of Molecular Biology at the University of Edinburgh prior to undertaking his PhD in Genetics at the University of Leicester with Professor Bob Pritchard.
He held NATO and NIH Postdoctoral Fellowships with Professor Stanley Cohen in the Departments of Medicine and Genetics at Stanford University Medical School, California, and was an industrial-supported Postdoctoral Research Associate with Professor Bill Brammar in the ICI-University Joint Laboratory at Leicester. He joined the Leicester Biocentre as Leader of the Yeast Replication Research Group, and later served as Deputy Director and Director, before joining the Department of Genetics in 1992 as a Senior Lecturer. He was promoted to Reader in 2001.
