- GENIE’s Virtual Genetics Education Centre (VGEC) was awarded a prize in the 2011 Jorum Learning and Teaching Competition. The competition, which is run in conjunction with the ALT-C Conference, is designed to recognise exciting and innovative teaching initiatives that have been developed as open educational resources (OERs) and made freely available under a Creative Commons licence. - A video from the SWIFT project (Second World Immersive Future Teaching), a collaboration between GENIE and Beyond Distance Research Alliance, was voted into 1st place in the Best Educational and the People’s Choice categories at the 4th Annual Virtual Worlds Best Practices in Education Conference (VWBPE) . Dr Cas Kramer was part of a team awarded the Grand Jury Award at 2WAYS, a major European Life Sciences Festival organised by the European Science Events Association (EUSCEA) for development of a board game encouraging public understanding of science Communication. Read more about the award.
- Dr Chris Cane was awarded a University Teaching Fellowship for the 2010/11 academic year in recognition of his exceptional programme leadership and development in postgraduate studies in the College of Medicine, Biological Sciences and Psychology. Read more about the award.
- In 2008, Professor Annette Cashmore (Director of GENIE) was awarded the prestigious National Teaching Fellowship award by the National Teaching Fellowship Scheme. Professor Cashmore was the fifth member of the University of Leicester to receive such an award. Read more about her award.
- In 2008, GENIE was again recognised at the HeSCA (Health & Science Communications Association) awards. This time the video "Making and Running an Agarose gel "was given a Gold Award. Read more in the university e-bulletin.

In 2007, Dr Jo Badge was awarded a University Teaching Fellowship for the development of accessible web-based learning resources within the School of Biological Sciences and for leadership in promoting student academic integrity.
