This joint degree allows you to study both English and History. Modules in these complementary subjects are clustered together in ways that support and enrich each other. Both English and History modules offer you the opportunity to study the full range of British history and literature from the Middle Ages to the present day
In years one and two you will take half your modules in English and half in History.
In the third year (or fourth year if you have spent a year abroad) you must take a minimum of 40 credits in each subject
During the third year, you do a dissertation in either English or History. In History, the dissertation and the special subject module are worth 40 credits each and run across two semesters. If you intend to take the History dissertation, you
will take Historical Research Skills in year two as preparation. If a you intend to take an English dissertation, you must have taken 20 credits of approved Historical Studies modules in year two.
In English final year, at least one module must be a core module (indicated below in bold). Students opting to take more than 60 credits in English must include two core modules.
Joint English and History students may transfer to the four year European Union degree to study abroad for one year at one of the partner institutions of the Centre for Historical Studies.
