Why study English at the University of Leicester?

We are consistently ranked among the highest university English departments in the UK by the National Student Satisfaction survey. We have always achieved ratings of 90% or over since the survey began in 2005.

The School is ranked in the 10 top ten English departments in England by the Times Good University Guide 2012.

All of our lecturers publish on their specialist subjects meaning that the teaching in the School is informed by the very latest in ground-breaking research

You will be taught in seminar groups of about 12, an ideal size for detailed discussions of issues raised in lectures and close readings of set texts.

Among the most striking aspects of our English BA are the breadth of its coverage and the opportunities this offers to specialize in particular fields or pursue new interests. You will graduate with a thorough knowledge of English literature and language from its beginnings in the Anglo-Saxon period through to the globalisation of English in the twenty-first century.

Come and see for your yourself

There is no substitute for personal experience. We believe that witnessing what the School, University and campus has to offer first-hand will allow you absorb what it is actually like to be a student; and that is something you cannot get from a book or website.

On an open or UCAS day you will be able to tour the campus and accommodation, talk to current staff and students from within the School and learn what the Leicester experience is all about.

Scholarships

The University’s Scholarships for 2012 include a scheme for students in the School of English with A-level grades of AAB or above.
