Staff in the School of English are committed to presenting their work outside Higher Education, and to discussing research ideas beyond the university.

We regularly:

  • give talks for school and sixth-form students,
  • organise a series of University ‘taster’ events each spring,
  • are involved in local education projects such as ‘The Right to Read’ campaign in nearby schools and the 'Toe by Toe' reading and literacy project at HM Prison Leicester.

We warmly welcome A-level teachers and students into the School to attend lectures or workshops on subjects related to the A-level syllabus. Teachers are welcome to attend the School's diverse range of research seminars in Modern Literature, Victorian Studies and Medieval Studies.

We also work with museums, galleries and societies.

Please do get in touch if you would be interested in organising something similar for your institution. You might contact individual members of staff through their web pages, or you can email the School’s Director of External Relations, Dr Holly Furneaux.
