Prizes

The School offers the following undergraduate and postgraduate prizes after our Midsummer Board of Examiners at the end of each academic year:

Waddington Prize 

 

 

 

Three highest overall averages in final-year English In the event of two or more students achieving the third-highest final-year overall average, the prize will be awarded to the student with the most final-year first-class modules. If this does not result in a clear winner, the prize will be awarded to the student with the fewest final-year module marks below 60.

Waddington English Language Prize

 

 

The Waddington English Language Prize for the student who achieves the highest overall average in their second and third year EN-coded Language modules.  In the event of two students achieving the same average, the prize will be awarded to the student with the most first-class module marks. If this does not result in a clear winner, the prize will be awarded to the student with the fewest module marks below 60.

Waddington First Year Prize

The Waddington First Year Prize for the single-subject English student achieving the highest average across their four core first year modules (EN1010, EN1020, EN1040, EN1050).  In the event of two students achieving the same average, the prize will be awarded to the student with the most first-class module marks. If this does not result in a clear winner, the prize will be awarded to the student with the fewest module marks below 60.

Waddington Second Year Prize

The Waddington Second Year Prize for the single-subject English student achieving the highest average across their six second year EN-coded modules.  In the event of two students achieving the same average, the prize will be awarded to the student with the most first-class module marks. If this does not result in a clear winner, the prize will be awarded to the student with the fewest module marks below 60.

Waddington Joint Degree Prize

The Waddington Joint Degree Prize for English for the student who achieves the highest overall average in their second and third year EN-coded modules.  In the event of two students achieving the same average, the prize will be awarded to the student with the most first-class module marks. If this does not result in a clear winner, the prize will be awarded to the student with the fewest module marks below 60.

Waddington MA Prize

The Waddington MA Prize in English for the student who produces the best MA dissertation in each of the MA programmes offered by the School of English (campus and distance learning).  The dissertation must be at distinction level. The holder of the Collins prize is not eligible. In the event of two or more students achieving the same dissertation mark, the prize will be awarded jointly.
