Professor Joanne Shattock meets Her Majesty the Queen

Professor Joanne Shattock, of the Victorian Studies Centre in the School of English was among a group of international scholars of Victorian literature to be invited by Her Majesty the Queen to a reception held at Buckingham Palace to mark the Bicentenary of the birth of Charles Dickens on 14th February 2012.  As well as literary scholars from the UK and North America, those attending included actors from film, television, and the theatre who have starred in adaptations of Dickens’s novels, members of the Dickens Fellowship from around the Commonwealth, and those involved in preserving the Dickensian heritage in libraries and museums. Professor Shattock is the Founding President of the British Association for Victorian Studies and editor of the works of the Victorian novelists Elizabeth Gaskell and Margaret Oliphant.
