Thom Gobbitt and Kate Wiles (IMS, Leeds):  How to: Research, Data and Writing in Medieval Studies. A Rough Guide

This session will focus on research environments; research management and personal effectiveness. We will consider the experience of postgraduate students and postdoctoral researchers in major research projects. The session will examine the research methodologies and techniques of the projects. It will also address practical advice on recognising opportunities, making grant applications and the ability to recognise and validate future projects.

The session will comprise presentations from panelists who are now working in a range of careers beyond academia (e.g. law, librarianship, publishing). The session will enable participants to identify the transferable skills they are acquiring as part of their PhD and to reflect on ways they might put them to use in a range of careers.
