Welcome to the home page of the School of English at the University of Leicester

The School of English at the University of Leicester combines cutting-edge research with enthusiastic teaching, fantastic careers support, and a varied calendar of extra-curricular and social events.

As an undergraduate, you can choose to focus on English, with optional pathways in English Language and Creative Writing, or to combine English with American Studies, History, History of Art, Film Studies, French, Italian or Spanish. A wide selection of visiting speakers and extra-curricular events will enable you to expand your subject knowledge and improve your analytical skills, and the English Society organizes a wide range of social events to cater for everyone. Depending on the degree programme you choose, you can also opt to spend a year abroad in Europe or in the US.

As a postgraduate, you will be taught and supervised by leading scholars in your field. Our MAs in English Studies, Modern Literature, Modern Literature and Creative Writing, Victorian Studies and English Language and Linguistics allow you to build on your undergraduate degree and specialize at a higher level. The Society for Postgraduates in English Language and Literature (SPELL) organizes social events and development opportunities for MA and PhD students in the School.
