"Boids and Boards: Formal methods for emergent behaviours in configurable hardware".
Alex Cole from the Embedded Systems Laboratory will give a seminar to the Leicester branch of the British Computer Society as part of the Postgraduate Research in Computing meeting in March. The meeting will be held in the Queens Building, De Montfort University on Tuesday 9th March at 18.30.
Alex will be talking about his recent work (with his supervisors Alistair McEwan and Satnam Singh) on Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs), and implementing "boids" - small discreet processes that exhibit emergent (flocking) behaviours when large numbers are present. The topic of being able to observe emergent behaviours through simulation is of great interest to many biological fields, given the (relative) ease with which in-silico experiments can be conducted.
Alex said "This is a great opportunity to discuss some of the early results of my work, and get feedback from a large community of PhD students and researchers".
