- Leicester Engineering graduate is Australian Professional Engineer of the Year
- Professor Karen Reynolds has been awarded the title of Australian Professional Engineer of the Year in the Australian Engineering Excellence Awards.
- Prof Helen Atkinson nominated for "Women in the Workplace" award
- Professor Helen Atkinson was recently nominated for a Leicester Business Women’s “Women in the Workplace award”; the finals of which took place on Friday 19th November.

- Dr Chris Edwards, of the Control and Instrumentation research group, has been promoted to a personal chair.
- Dr Hong Dong promoted to Reader
- Dr Hong Dong, of the Mechanics of Materials research group, has been promoted to Reader in Materials Engineering.
- Prof Sarah Hainsworth in Women's Engineering Society "Hall of Fame"
- Professor Sarah Hainsworth has been invited to become one of the 90 founder members of the Women's Engineering Society "Hall of Fame" of Inspiring Technical Women.
- Dr Fernando Schlindwein awarded place on RAE Industry Secondment Scheme
- Dr Fernando Schlindwein has been awarded an Industry Secondment Scheme by the Royal Academy of Engineering to help St. Jude Medical UK improve their system for the diagnostics and treatment of atrial arrhythmias. The secondment will be from 01 January 2010 to 30 June 2010. During that period Dr Schlindwein will be working at St. Jude Medical UK.

- Professor Sarah Hainsworth has been appointed as Graduate Dean for the next three years.
- Dr Michael Chen appointed Visiting Associate Professor
- Dr Michael Chen has been appointed Visiting Associate Professor at Hong Kong University, with effect from January 2010.
- Mr Ihab Abou Rayan wins UKACC Phd Student Presentation
- At the occasion of the United Kingdom Automatic Control Council (UKACC) Annual Tustin Lecture 2009, Mr Ihab Abou Rayan of the Department of Engineering won the UKACC PhD student presentation for his talk on "Using artificial intelligence to detect sensor faults in UAVs". This was a short paper co-authored with his supervisors Professor Ian Postlethwaite and Professor Dawei Gu.
- Professors John Fothergill and Dawei Gu appointed Visiting Professors at CTGU
- Professors John Fothergill and Dawei Gu were appointed Visiting Professors at the China Three Gorges University (CTGU) when they visited on 27th April 2009.
- Professor Rodrigo Quian Quiroga appointed to MRC panel
- Professor Rodrigo Quian Quiroga, head of the Bioengineering research group, has been appointed to the Biomedical Informatics Training and Career Development Panel of the Medical Research Council.
- Professor Andrew Strang awarded IMMM medal
- Professor Andrew Strang, a visiting professor in the Mechanics of Materials research group, has been awarded the Sir Andrew Bryan Medal by the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining. This medal is awarded for "sustained and outstanding contributions to the Institute and its activities". The IMMM is the main professional body for specialists in metallurgy and materials technology.
