Dr Fernando Schlindwein has been awarded an Industry Secondment Scheme by the Royal Academy of Engineering to help St. Jude Medical UK improve their system for the diagnostics and treatment of atrial arrhythmias. The secondment will be from 01 January 2010 to 30 June 2010. During that period Dr Schlindwein will be working at St. Jude Medical UK.

At the occasion of the United Kingdom Automatic Control Council (UKACC) Annual Tustin Lecture 2009, Mr Ihab Abou Rayan of the Department of Engineering won the UKACC PhD student presentation for his talk on "Using artificial intelligence to detect sensor faults in UAVs". This was a short paper co-authored with his supervisors Professor Ian Postlethwaite and Professor Dawei Gu.
