Information for Schools

Lectures and other information for schools.

The department's schools outreach contact is the admissions tutor, Mr Ian Jarvis.  The department runs various activities in collaboration with local schools and colleges.  Our undergraduates have the opportunity of participating in the Undergraduate Ambassador Scheme through the third year Work Experience in Secondary Education module which gives them experience of teaching for half a day a week during the spring term.  This has led to several of our students taking up a career in teaching, and hopefully also in many school students considering engineering as a career option.

Lectures for Schools

Please contact the department (email engineering@le.ac.uk) if you would like to enquire about lectures for schools.

Lectures available:

  • Professor John Fothergill, "Optical Fibres and Lasers: How the Internet Superhighway Works".
    • View Professor Fothergill's lecture as an e-lecture.
  • Dr Chris Coats, "Meeting the World's Energy Needs".
  • Professor Mike Warrington, "Radio, the Atmosphere and the Arctic" (Prof Warrington's inaugural lecture - available in half-hour or hour-long versions).
