Research and scholarly activity within the School is co-ordinated through Special Interest Groups which include academic staff and research students. The work of these groups is focused on the following research themes:

  • Leadership Learning and Change
  • Innovative Pedagogies and Reform
  • Mathematics and Science Education
  • Education for Social Justice
  • Engagement and Vulnerability in Education
  • Professional Learning and Teacher Identity
  • Language Teaching, Learning, and Use

Members of special interest groups are involved in a number of ongoing research projects.

For details of individual staff research interests and areas in which they would be able to supervise doctoral students see individual staff members’ pages.

We host regular research seminars and events on topics related to our  research interests

Research aims

To provide a critical voice in debates on issues in education, informed by research evidence and non-partisan analytical thinking

We value the importance of linking teaching and research to policy issues and influencing national policy agendas and providing opportunities for disenfranchised voices to be heard.

To reflect the unique status of the city of Leicester and its surroundings in terms of its diversity of cultures and faiths

Our research builds on partnership with local primary and secondary schools through highly successful programmes of initial teacher education, postgraduate research and continuing professional development.

To provide high-quality, undergraduate, postgraduate and professional learning and teaching programmes.
