The MA International Education aims to offer teachers, lecturers and educational leaders in schools, colleges and universities, as well as those with experience of or an interest in education in broader contexts, a unique opportunity to reflect upon their own practice and to enhance their knowledge.

The MA International Education is a rigorous qualification which provides you with several opportunities to undertake research in your particular area of interest, building on your knowledge in this specialised area. Its quality is assured by strict adherence to university quality procedures which are, themselves , tied to QAA and HEFCE monitoring processes. 

The programme offers a unique opportunity for you to develop your knowledge and skills by applying course input to real-life situations within your own educational setting, be this in a school, college or university. It is a powerful vehicle for institutional improvement, as well as individual, personal and professional development.  

Programme Aims

The course aims to:

• enhance your understanding of contemporary issues in primary, secondary and post-complusory education in international contexts
• develop an ability to reflect critically on theory in the area of teaching and learning and use it as a basis for understanding and improving practice
• develop an abililty to undertake small-scale research
• give training in the use of qualitative and quantitative research methods in educational contexts
• develop transferable skills and their application in educational and related areas
• develop the research skills appropriate for transfer/access to advanced social research at doctoral level.

Programme Structure

The programme consists of four taught modules plus a research-based dissertation. You will study two core modules, you will then choose one of the four pathways (each pathway contains two modules) and complete the dissertation.

Assessment

The course is continually assessed through a number of written assignments and presentations, as well as the dissertation at the end of the programme. An assignment of 4,000-5,000 words or equivalent is completed for each module, enabling students to develop their academic interests. There are no exams for this course.
