Tuition Fees

The tuition fee for 2012-2013 for both the Primary and Secondary PGCE courses is £9,000 for home and EU students.

The tuition fee for 2012-2013 for International Students is £11,450.

Training and Development Agency Bursaries

The TDA training bursaries are payments for all eligible UK and EU PGCE students intended to support living expenses during the course. They are paid through the university in nine equal monthly instalments, (the first being in October) and you do not have to apply for them.

During 2012-2013, bursary levels are dependent on the highest degree classification held by the PGCE student. The table below summarises the bursaries available:

Student Loans

You can apply for a low interest loan from  Student Finance England to pay your tuition fee. You can apply for the exact amount of the cost of the tuition fee and the Student Loans Company will pay the money direct to the University.

Students may still apply for loans even though they are receiving a training bursary.

For 2012-2013 students may apply for:

  • a tuition fee loan of £9,000 paid direct to the University
  • a maintenance loan of up to a maximum of £5,500

All loans are liable for repayment once earnings rise above £21,000.

Maintenance Grants

Students may apply for a maintenance grant of up to £3,250 depending on their circumstances. You can apply through your main student finance application. You can only get a maintenance grant if your household income is assessed. This means Student Loans Company will look at your household income and work out how much money you will be entitled to.

You can find further information and application details for these student loans and the maintenance grant online www.direct.gov.uk/studentfinance

Council Tax

Full-time PGCE students are exempt from Council Tax.
