I have taught English as a Foreign Language in Thailand, Japan and the UK for over 20 years. I have also taught English for Academic Purposes, linguistics, sociolinguistics and applied linguistics at various UK universities and have been involved in English language teacher education since 1993.

My PhD was undertaken at Lancaster University studying language teacher education across cultures, a discourse- analytic study of Malaysian teachers of English undergoing in-service training in the U.K.  I taught linguistics and applied linguistics for five years at the University of Portsmouth before coming to Leicester as a Lecturer in Education in 2002.
