Paul joined the School of Education at Leicester in 2004 and was awarded a teaching fellowship in 2009 in recognition of innovation and expertise in his teaching practice. He now teaches on a wide variety of courses within the School.
Paul’s has a history of working with children in care and young people at risk of disaffection and he has been heavily involved in setting up educational initiatives in schools, colleges and universities. His main area of practice and research has been innovation in education and exploring the creation of apt learning spaces for life in the 21st century. Other areas include:
- Thematic, issue based and cross-disciplinary curriculum
- Enquiry based, experiential and participatory pedagogy
- Student voice and personalising learning
- Education for Sustainable Development, Democratic Citizenship and well being
- Mentoring and life skills learning
- Action research for social justice and student engagement
This work has involved working for various statutory bodies and third sector agencies and has resulted in a long term involvement with the educational reform charity Human Scale Education.
