Maarten Tas moved to the United Kingdom in 1994 as a Senior Researcher to carry out science-based post doctoral studies and was involved in AIDS related research at the University of Leicester.

Having trained as a teacher in the Netherlands, Maarten took up secondary school teaching at an inner city school of Leicester. He worked for several years at Lutterworth College in Leicestershire, where he became a Subject Learning Coach and developed coaching models on effective questioning and personalised learning.

Maarten joined the School of Education as co-ordinator for the Secondary PGCE Science programme in 2009.  He also teaches on the Masters course ‘Issues in Science Education’, run through the Science Learning Centre and supervises doctoral students on the EdD and programmes.

Research


Teaching Interests

Maarten teaches the following modules:

  • F0X1 Secondary PGCE Core Science
  • C1X1 Secondary PGCE Biology
  • ED7130 Masters in Learning and Teaching: Issues in Science Education

Maarten’s specific teaching interests include developing action research with Science teachers in secondary schools and developing sustainable professional learning communities. Other interests are the development of pedagogical content knowledge and sustainable professional development.
