Carmen taught in a range of East London Primary and Infant schools before joining the School of Education in 2007. Her teaching experience ranges from reception to year six pupils in mainstream and special education. She has also been involved in providing language support for refugees and asylum seekers and outreach support for those with Moderate Learning Difficulties. Carmen moved to Leicestershire to work as a Key Stage One advisory teacher for Leicestershire Local Authority and later became a Lead Foundation Stage consultant.
Here at the University of Leicester, Carmen works with partnership schools and teachers to develop the next generation of teachers. She leads the BA (Hons) in Educational Studies and co-ordinates both the Professional and Lower Primary Strands of the Primary PGCE course. Carmen also teaches on the Postgraduate Certificate Course, ‘Mentoring and Coaching’ for practicing teachers.
Carmen also acts as the External Examiner for Cumbria University's BA (Hons) Qualified Teacher’s Status Early Years programme.
