The Foundation Degree offers a range of modules which seek to give you a solid overview of the skills and knowledge you need to provide exceptional support in the classroom.

ED1120 Tools for Learning You will become familiar with different learning styles and gain a greater understanding of how pupils learn. You will reflect critically on your own approach to learning and will develop your ability to use ICT in your writing, reports and material preparation. You will also evaluate ICT applications used in the classroom. |

ED1121 Literacy with ICT You will develop your understanding of the processes of reading and writing and how they can be supported formally and informally in schools. You will have the opportunity to investigate some of the barriers to the successful acquisition of literary skills and will become familiar with the software and ICT applications that support the development of literacy skills. |

ED1122 Science with ICT You will gain a thorough understanding of the Key Stage 1 and 2 Science Curriculum. You will analyse the difficulties pupils have with the study of science, apply strategies to encourage and support pupils to learn to engage confidently in science; become more familiar with the software and ICT applications that support the development of scientific skills. |

ED1123 Numeracy with ICT You will develop a solid understanding of the development of mathemics in children and analyse the difficulties children have with numeracy. You will apply strategies to encourage and support children to learn to use mathematics with confidence and will gain a critical understanding of the software and ICT applications that support the development of numerical skills. |

ED1124 Education in Practice You will reflect on the styles of teaching experienced in schools and how these influence learning. You will be required to demonstrate your understanding of the theories of learning and how opportunites for learning are organised in schools. |

ED1125 Professional Practice 1 This module focuses on your professional development in the work place. You will analyse and understand your own communication with others, apply strategies to help pupils listen, talk, read and write more effectively, prepare a review and action plan for your own learning, analyse the dynamics of teams and understand the Teaching Assistant role, rights and responsibilities. |

ED2120 Inclusive Education In this module you will study the work of learning theorists, identify the range of learning needs in the classroom and understand the causes of a variety of learning problems. You will apply strategies to communicate effectively with pupils and support their development and academic progress, analyse and evaluate the arguments for and against inclusion and gain an understanding of relevant education legislation. |

ED2121 Action Research Project This module gives you the opportunity to plan an action research project. You will execute an action research investigation and gather findings which you will review and use to reflect on your own approach to classroom support work, amending practice where appropriate. |

ED2122 Professional Practice 2 This module provides the opportunity to review and evaluate the course and to up-date knowledge on curriculum and professional matters. You will make an action plan to show developing areas of specialism and expertise in schools, devevloping responsibilities of your support role, and to plan how to proceed after completing the Foundation Degree. |

ED2123 Assessment for Learning This module will provide you with an understanding of the various types of assessment used in schools (including formative and summative) You will understand the assessment framework of the National Curriculum in England and Wales. You will critically evaluate at least one method of assessment. |

ED2124 Specialist Option This module offers you the opportunity to investigate a particular area of your choice from the core curriculum in greater detail. in greater detail. You will identify a current issue and compare local/national findings using their research skills. |

ED2125 Research Methods During this module you will learn how to recognise appropriate investigative methods for a small-scale school-based investigation, analyse data, display data effectively and interpret it critically, in preparation for the ED 2121 and ED 2124 where skills will be put into practice. |
