MSc Team Members
“I have been working in the field for many years as both a teacher and researcher. Technologies offer wonderfully opportunities to foster engaging learning opportunities. I passionately believe that research should inform practice and see the masters as an important vehicle to give practitioners a thorough overview of the ways in which technologies can promote a range of forms of communication and collaboration to support learning.”
Professor Gráinne Conole, Professor of Learning Innovation and Director, Beyond Distance Research Alliance
“My background is in innovative technologies for educational use. Based on three years’ using virtual worlds for genetics education, I will be providing a case study and exercises for Second Life and Open Sim. Participants will have the opportunity to complete a virtual world project if they so choose.”
Dr Paul Rudman, Research Associate
“Since 2006, R&D projects at our department have attracted over £1.7 million in external funding from a range of UK and international funders. Through the findings of these projects, that focus on the latest developments in educational communication, students on our MSc in Learning Innovation will explore and experience new opportunities for personal and professional educational practice arising from application of digital, connected and open technologies.”
Jaideep Mukherjee, Projects Manager
“Among my interests as a learning technologist have been the pedagogical issues involved in integrating multimedia learning resources. I have worked on implementing and evaluating audio and video lecture recording in higher education via iTunes since 2006, leading to a recent SCORE research fellowship into the impact of iTunes U as a channel of free and open educational resources (OERs). I also teach workshops to masters and PhD students around the theme of digital scholarship and web 2.0 tools for researchers.”
Terese Bird, Learning Technologist and SCORE Research Fellow
“We recently conducted a very exciting series of pilot workshops on learning design. This involved building on our existing Carpe Diem workshop, which has been very much in demand by course development teams at Leicester and other institutions over the past five years, and enriching it with selected openly-licensed, tried-and-tested resources, templates and tools from other UK institutions. The workshop was piloted with both remote, online participants and face-to-face groups, and was a resounding success. The workshop series, which we affectionately refer to as The 7Cs of Learning Design, forms the basis of the module on Learning Design in the MSc.”
Gabi Witthaus, Research Fellow
“For several years, I have helped organise and run Follow the Sun; utilising this experience, online conference platforms are included in the modules on Technology-Enhanced Learning and Case Studies of Innovation.”
Simon Kear, Senior Learning Technologist
“For the MScLI students I want to add value by drawing on my 50+ years of experience of learning innovation in many different countries and settings. A walking wikipedia on learning innovation?”
Professor David Hawkridge, Visiting Professor of E-learning
“As a PhD research student residing in Canada, my knowledge and perspectives are developing globally. I benefit from dedicated and passionate supervisors, all of whom are part of the MScLI team, who encourage and motivate my research of digital literacies and personal learning environments within informal and self-directed work-based learning.”
