"The undergraduate course I studied has provided me with skills that allowed me to take my profession to the highest level, the lecturers provided me with ample support based on their superior specialities, and the friends I've made from the course made the social aspect of University one that I will never forget.
"Returning to Leicester for my PhD after successful completion of my Bachelors has re-affirmed my belief that Leicester is one of the top-end institutions in the UK. The high level of teaching, coupled with courses that are challenging and useful for building successful careers have enhanced my employability. Furthermore they have aided me in my goal of completing a doctorate.
"Speaking to other academics worldwide it is common to hear them speak highly and respectfully of many members of staff here at the University. This in turn has made me believe that studying at the University of Leicester has been, and always will be, the correct choice."
BA Economics Graduate 2010 (1st)
Paul Howard
Company: LUPUS UK
Job Title: Projects officer
- Ian Bradley Prize (University of Leicester)
- Arthur Pool Memorial Prize (University of Leicester)
- Ronald L Meek Memorial Prize (University of Leicester)
- College of Social Sciences Prize (University of Leicester)
'I couldn’t be happier with my decision to study Economics at the University of Leicester. The quality of support and the experience of the department’s faculty allowed me make the most of my time studying. The structure of the course allowed me learn a wide range of skills, due to it being so diverse.
Without my fantastic degree it is unlikely I would have been invited to a meeting at LUPUS UK after sending them a letter enquiring about positions. At the meeting I proposed what I could bring to the charity and I was offered a part time volunteering position for 6 months. I was then awarded a contract and salary following my performance during that time.
The analytical skills learned in my degree help me no end in my job. Microeconomics, incentives and Webonomics all help me to understand the environment I work in and suggest operating improvements.
I will always remember my time in Leicester fondly and I would highly recommend the University of Leicester to anybody wishing to go into higher education.'
BSc Economics Graduate 2009
Joanne Napper
Company: MediaCom
Job Title: Graduate Econometrician
Recruited by MediaCom directly from course along with another student.
"I immensely enjoyed studying at the University of Leicester in the Economics department. The technical aspect of the BSc course helped me capitalise on the University's partnership with the Econometrics department of Mediacom, a leading Media Agency, and I am using what I learnt during my time in Leicester on a day-to-day basis."
BA Economics Graduate 2009 (1st)
Alexandra Long
Company: The Co-operative Group
Job Title: Facilities Project Manager
"Studying Economics at the University of Leicester for three years was both a worthwhile and enjoyable experience. The quality of teaching was exceptional - the tutors and lecturers were always willing to go the extra mile to support students, especially in their all-important final year. The teaching staff were highly knowledgeable, and were able to explain difficult concepts to ensure that this could be understood and then applied by the students.
"The commercial awareness and other key skills that I gained, such as strong analytical and problem solving skills, I believe helped me to secure a position on a highly competitive Graduate scheme at a time when the economy was in one of the weakest positions that it has been for some time.
"I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Leicester, and I would defiantly recommend the Economics department to any prospective student who's considering studying the subject."
BA Economics Graduate 2008
Owen Jones

Job Title: Executive
"I fully enjoyed my time studying Economics at the University of Leicester and I have gained invaluable skills that I frequently use in the workplace. The most significant of these was gaining a firm understanding of both qualitative and quantitative analysis techniques that I do not believe that one would gain from most other degree courses, which has invariably helped me advance so quickly during my career in the charity sector."
