Supervision Arrangements

On admission, students are allocated two supervisors: primary and second. The primary supervisor fulfils the main role of guidance for the student, (in line with the University's Code of Practice for Research Students), and will guide a student through staff research interests and supervisory potential.  The second supervisor complements the role of the primary supervisor. Each student will also be assigned a Thesis Committee (chaired by the Director of Postgraduate Research or his or her deputy).  The Director of Postgraduate Research acts as Personal Tutor of all students registered in the postgraduate research degree.

The Thesis Committee reviews progress of the students through regularly scheduled Thesis Committee Meetings. Students also present their work in PhD conferences. This gives a chance to the entire department to review progress of the students.
