The Department of Economics is delighted to announce that the 'Best Collaboration Award' has been awarded to the Department of Economics Course Reps. This award has been handed out by the Students’ Union as part of five Course Rep Awards. These awards honour Course Reps for their exceptional contribution they make within their roles. Four of the awards were given to individual students, however, the fifth award for ‘Best Collaboration’ was given to all the Course Reps in the department who worked best as a team and contributed most overall.
The decision was made based on several factors including the number of Economics Course Reps attending Student Union led events. These events included Course Rep training at the start of the year, lunches with the Vice-Chancellor and Pro-Vice –Chancellor Christine Fyfe, the ED advisory committees and Top-Up Training amongst others. The Economics Course Reps were also always eager to get involved in ED campaigns such as ‘Sort It Out’, which aimed to gain student feedback on their course and university experience. On top of that 9 out of the 13 Economics Course Reps submitted a record of achievement for this year and thus received Course Rep Accreditation, levels of which varied between accreditation, bronze and silver. Finally, the response rate for the Economics department in the National Student Survey went up this year in comparison to last year. The reason for this increase is partly due to the campaigning efforts of the Course Reps, who promoted the survey to students.
Overall the Economics Course Reps have worked well as a team, and all have contributed to their role as Course Reps significantly. As well as working well as a team there were several individual members within the department who put in an exceptional amount of effort to their role.
The shield now stands pride of place in the Department of Economics Reception for all to see.
