Facilities
The Department has a significant amount of laboratory equipment, which is maintained as a core facility, and is available for use by any section/research group within the Department. Users of this equipment will have to meet reagent costs and with some equipment, a contribution to the maintenance payments will be charged.
Each piece of equipment has a lead user. If you wish to discuss the use of a particular piece of equipment, please contact them directly in the first instance.

In addition to the above facilities, academic staff members also have access to the following services within the College of Medicine, Biological Sciences and Psychology, at the main university campus.
Geneta:Gene Targeting and Transgenic Service
The Geneta: Gene Targeting and Transgenic Service was established in 1997 with support from the Wellcome Trust, but is now run on a self-supporting basis through contact generated income. The facility comprises a tissue culture suite with state-of-the-art equipment for culturing embryonic stem cells and for generating ES cell lines with targeted genetic mutations.
The Protein Expression Laboratory
The Protein Expression Laboratory with prepare protein expression clones in the vector of your choice. Multiple expression vectors from one set of primers. All you supply are two primers and a template.
The Protein Nucleic Acid Chemistry Laboratory (PNACL)
The protein nucleic acid chemistry laboratory provides services for protein sequencing and automated DNA sequencing. Mass spectrometry facilities (electrospray and matrix assisted laser desorption) are available in the PNAC laboratory.
The Biomedical Joint Workshops
The Biomedical Joint Workshops provide an efficient, cost-effective, customer-friendly service in the design, manufactoure and repair of specialist equipment required for teaching and research within the College of Medicine, Biological Sciences and Psychology.
