This course provides students with an in-depth understanding of offending behaviour, particularly the key role played in lawbreaking by mental illness, personality disorder, and cognitive impairment. Special attention is paid to sexual offending and personality disorders like psychopathy. Key legal issues are also explored, including fitness to stand trial and criminal responsibility. The MSc in Clinical Criminology also allows students to examine correctional interventions in the assessment, treatment and management of 'problematic' categories of offenders and ex-offenders.

 

Course Structure and Assessment

The MSc Clinical Criminology programme can be studied either full-time over one year or part-time over two years. The course consists of four core modules plus two optional modules. All six modules must be successfully completed to attain the Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Criminology.

Each module is assessed via a 4,000 word essay. A 20,000 word dissertation must also be successfully completed to achieve the MSc degree.

Entry Requirements

The MSc Clinical Criminology programme is open to applicants with a first or second class honours degree (2:2 or above) or equivalent professional qualification. We are, however, able to give special consideration to applicants who have significant work experience in a relevant field.
