The MSc Applied Criminology course offers students a wonderful opportunity to acquire experience in the practical application of their growing criminological skills and expertise. Taught modules covering key issues in contemporary criminology are supplemented by a placement module which allows students to apply their knowledge in a supervised practical setting of their choosing within the criminal justice system.
The course has been prepared by lecturers who are at the forefront of research in this field. Subject information is updated constantly to keep abreast of this fast-changing subject area, and the very latest teaching techniques are geared to providing an intellectually stimulating, enjoyable and enriching learning experience.
Course Structure and Assessment
The MSc Applied Criminology programme can be studied either full-time over one year or part-time over two years. The course consists of three core modules plus three optional modules. All six modules must be successfully completed to attain the Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Criminology.
Each module is assessed via a 4,000 word essay. A 20,000 word dissertation must also be successfully completed to achieve the MSc degree.

The placement module is only available to students undertaking the MSc Applied Criminology programme. Its aim is to enhance employment prospects within the criminal justice professions. The placement will last four weeks and serves as one module.

Entry Requirements
The MSc Applied Criminology programme is open to applicants with a first or upper second class honours degree (2:1) or equivalent professional qualification.
