Biography
Dr James Treadwell became a lecturer in criminology at the University of Leicester in 2008, moving from Birmingham City University. He completed undergraduate degrees in Criminal Justice at the University of Central England (now Birmingham City University) and Community Justice at University of Birmingham, and also holds a Postgraduate Diploma and MA in Criminology. His PhD work was based upon ethnographic research with men involved in football violence and crime, and he is interested in all aspects of criminal conduct.
Research Interests
James research interests broadly span all aspects of crime and criminal conduct. He is currently involved in prison interviewing speaking to ex-military service personnel in prison as part of the Howard Leagues commission into Ex-Military personnel in prison, while he continues to undertake qualitative work with individuals who are actively involved in offending. Most of his work involves themes of masculinity; professional crime; crime in the night-time economy; violent and alcohol-related crime; football violence; organised crime; youth crime, and he is always keen to hear from prospective PhD students who are interested in a course of study that involves one or more of these themes.
