Criminology in Focus

Criminology in Focus is the newsletter of the Department of Criminology. Each issue includes news from the Department, stories about our staff and students and articles about current research. You will also find a profile from one of our alumni on page 12 of each newsletter. This bumper edition of our newsletter features a report on the ANZSoc conference in Australia attended by Professor Yvonne Jewkes and Tammy Ayres. Other news includes the launch of a brand new Distance Learning MSc programme and the re-launch of the Scarman Lecture Series in early 2012. The issue also focuses on research, publications, articles and conferences attended by the staff, some great news from our 2011 graduates, a profile of our latest Honorary Visiting Fellow Simon Cole, staff profiles of Irene Zempi and Dr Lisa Smith and an update from the new Criminology Society commitee. The Alumni profile is Leone Darbon, an MSc Security and Risk Management graduate from 2011 who also went on to win a prestigious award this year based on her dissertation.

Our fifth issue includes articles on the history of the Department as well as the British Society of Criminology conference hosted by the Department in July 2010. We take a look at current research being undertaken by staff, two newly published books and the research being carried out by one of our PhD students, Allan L. Branson. There is also an update from the Criminology Society and an alumni profile from Claire Vanneck who has completed both undergraduate and postgraduate studies with the Department and is now sudying for a PhD.

In our fourth issue we introduce our new Head of Department, Adrian Beck. The issue also includes more about the British Society of Criminology conference, an article on the guest lecture given by the Chief Constable of Derbyshire Police, a staff profile from Dr Rob Mawby, articles about two new books by Leicester criminologists, news from some of our alumni and an alumni profile from Simon Roberts who graduated from our MSc in Security Management in 2001.

Our third issue announces that we will be holding the British Society of Criminology conference in 2010. You will also find news from the Department, including the latest Scarman Lecture by Professor Alice Hills, a staff profile from Dr Laure Guille, information on a new hate crime book, the winners of our departmental photography competition, an update from the Alumni Association and an alumni profile from Barry Vincent who graduted from our MSc Security and Risk Management programme in 2007.

In our second issue you can read about the retirement of Andrew Willis, the next lecture in our Scarman series by Rex Bloomstein, our new MSc in Terrorism, Security and Policing and Professor Herschel Prins being awarded an Honorary Professorship. There is also a staff profile from James Treadwell, articles by three of our Honorary Visiting Fellows, information on Adrian Beck's current research, an update from the Criminology Society and an alumni profile from Helen Jones who graduated from our MSc in Clinical Criminology in 2002.
