The B.Sc. (Industry) degrees are four year degrees that give you the option of spending one year working at a company.

Course Objectives

The academic objectives of these degrees are really no different from those of the corresponding standard B.Sc. degree; however, in addition, they will:

• enable you to experience modern computing from an industrial perspective
• provide you with an opportunity to work in industry and experience industrial culture
• enable you to use, consolidate, and extend the knowledge and skills gained during the first two years of your degree programme
• provide you with an environment that will encourage a thoughtful and mature approach to all aspects of study and life

A year in industry is also an excellent opportunity to learn more about the type of profession that you can choose after you graduate, and point you to postgraduate studies that may help you strengthen the profile that you will have identified for your career.

Year Two

Your placement effectively begins in year two when you will be briefed in writing a CV, interview techniques and the procedures that you need to follow to obtain an industrial placement. In addition, a list of potential industrial partners who have taken students in past years will be provided to you.

Year Three

During your placement (in year three) you will be visited by your personal tutor and will also come back to the University to give a brief presentation of your work experience. You will be provided with a log book at the beginning of the placement and, at the end, you will write a report detailing your work, which will be assessed by the coordinators.

The Industry degrees are all accredited by the BCS; the accreditations granted to the main Undergraduate Programmes all apply to the Industry variants.
