The B.Sc. (Europe) degrees are four year degrees that give you the option of spending a year at a European university. The academic objectives of these degrees are really no different from those of the corresponding standard B.Sc. degree; however they offer you the opportunity to live and work abroad, to become more flexible and more independent. There are special arrangements for tuition fees and you receive an allowance while abroad, besides free language tuition before you go. Specific information is available from the University's International Office.

Erasmus

This degree operates under the ERASMUS programme of the European Union. The purpose of the programme, as stated in the introduction to the ERASMUS Directory, is to be a 'major stimulus towards increased student mobility' in the European Union, while increasing cooperation in academic activities generally between universities in the EU.

How the Year Abroad degree works:

You spend your first two years in Leicester taking the modules for a standard BSc, your third year at the host university, and your final year in Leicester taking the normal final year BSc modules. Degree classification is formally based on performance in years two and four only, but you will need to have passed the modules taken abroad.

How to apply for the year abroad:

Initial registration for your choice of European university, language training (etc) takes place at the start of the second year; final acceptance depends on a satisfactory performance in the second year examinations. If you initially applied for another programme, but wish to consider changing to the Europe variant, the change must be made at the start of your second year.

Why Study Abroad?

The extra year required for a B.Sc. (Europe) degrees means that you are very likely to know substantially more than students taking a normal three year degree. In addition, you will be better prepared to apply for jobs that require spending time in European countries other than the UK.

The Europe degrees are all accredited by the BCS; the accreditations granted to the main Undergraduate Programmes all apply to the Europe variants.
