Course Structure and Regulations

Course Structure

All our distance learning courses have two points of entry per year: one in January and one in October. The normal period of registration is 2 years for an MSc and 1 year for a PG Certificate; maximal periods of registration are 3 years and 2 years respectively. This means that we usually expect a student to be able to complete their programme in the normal period of registration, but that students cannot take longer than the maximal periods.

MSc

During their time of registration, students will undertake 6 15 credit taught modules and a 90 credit individual project. Taught modules are offered synchronized with the campus based programmes and will run from late September or early October to December (with examinations in January) and from late January or early February to early May (with examinations in May/June). The project usually follows soon after the examinations for the sixth taught module, subject to successful completion of the taught modules. A detailed description of the commitments to be made during study and what to expect during the participation in a module or the project will be made available soon.

PG Cert

During their time of registration, students will undertake 4 15 credit taught modules. Taught modules are offered synchronized with the campus based programmes and will run from late September or early October to December (with examinations in January) and from late January or early February to early May (with examinations in May/June).

CPD

Students register for individual 15 credit modules which are offered synchronized with the campus based programmes and will run from late September or early October to December (with examinations in January) and from late January or early February to early May (with examinations in May/June). Students taking modules in the CPD mode do not have to attend the examination, however if they plan to upgrade to a PG Cert or MSc at a later stage only modules where the examination was taken can be accredited.
