Undergraduate Degree Celebrations - July 2011

The Centre for Labour Market Studies marked the success of its new undergraduate degree on Wednesday 13th July as the first cohort of undergraduate students graduated with BSc degrees.

The distance learning BSc is the only one of its kind. All CLMS students are working adults and professionals, and the courses are designed to provide maximum flexibility. Each year of study on the undergraduate programme leads to a recognised qualification: the Certificate after Year 1, the Diploma after Year 2 and the full BSc in HRM after Year 3.

As part of their third year of study, recent graduates have completed dissertations in a range of subjects in HRM, industrial relations and training management. Recent topics include: 'the training of migrant workers', 'the role of the 'third sector' in community employment', and 'work-life balance in the recession.'

CLMS students are based all over the world - we have students studying our programmes in Hong Kong, the Caribbean and the Gulf, and eleven of them travelled to Leicester in July to celebrate. Some will go on to study for the CLMS Masters degree, which can then lead on to the Doctorate in Social Science, also by distance learning.

A totally professional approach to study. It makes you feel proud to say you study at the University of Leicester (Ian Campbell, BSc in HRM graduate, July 2011).
