Research

The Centre for Labour Market Studies takes an interdisciplinary approach to the study of work, organisations, employment, skills and learning.

Our approach is based on the view that researchers in the social sciences must be inter- and multi-disciplinary in order to better understand and critique the complexities of the world of work in the 21st Century. Furthermore, we stress the importance of local, national and international research.

Research imageOur research is clustered around five major themes:

  • Youth Transitions to Work
  • Employability and Locality
  • Work and Worker Organisation
  • Academic Practice and Distance Learning
  • Skills, Performance and Development

The Centre has an international reputation for high quality research which has direct relevance for both the policy-making and practitioner communities. If you are interested in pursuing research degrees at the Centre please see our list of Distance Learning Courses.
