The programme includes training in the principles and skills of social research, qualitative and quantitative design and methods of data collection and analysis and support to carry out a research project in an organisational setting. Furthermore, it aims to equip students with the research skills needed for advanced social science research at PhD level.

Our Masters by Research is studied entirely by distance learning over a minimum of 24 months up to a maximum of 48 months. To complete the course in 24 months, each of the three core modules will take approximately three months and there will be one month to develop the dissertation/research proposal. Once you have completed the core modules and the dissertation proposal you will move on to the final part of your Masters - the dissertation. The dissertation is a substantive piece of research that will take 14 months to complete and during this time you will be closely supervised by a member of the CLMS academic team.
