Studied for a BSc in Chemistry with Forensic Science
I chose to come to this University primarily because I achieved the A level grades required and because it has a very good reputation for Chemistry. Also, when I came for an open day I was made to feel so comfortable and from then I knew that I would happily settle here.
Since becoming a student at the University of Leicester I have found the Department of Chemistry extremely friendly and a great environment to work in. The staff are always at hand to aid with your studies and any other issues you wish to share with them.
The course itself provides a variety of learning and assessment techniques. For the Forensic part of the course you can choose to study modules from law and archaeology.
On the social side of being a student here, there are a variety of societies you can become part of. For example, our department has ChemSoc which organises days out, quizzes and other social activities.
The Students Union is a brilliant night out as are many other bars and clubs in the city.
My experience here has been outstanding and I would recommend anyone to come and study Chemistry at the University of Leicester.
In the future I aim to study for a Masters and then become an Analytical Chemist, with my long term career goal to pursue a career as a Forensic Scientist.
Update as of 13 May 2008
After successfully completing my undergraduate degree at the University of Leicester I moved to the University of Warwick to study for an MSc in Instrumental and Analytical Methods in Biological and Environmental Chemistry (IAMBEC). The MSc incorporated a five month research project that led me to want to study for a PhD in the field of electrochemistry.
I chose to study for my BSc in Chemistry with Forensic Science at Leicester primarily because the course program looked extremely interesting, especially those modules in the forensic science area. My decision was confirmed when I visited the University on an open day. The department provided a friendly and comfortable atmosphere which continued throughout my time at the University. I found the academics to be approachable and willing to help with work related problems or otherwise.
My experience at the University of Leicester was outstanding and I would recommend anyone to join the Department of Chemistry.
