G-STEP Global Space Technology Exchange Partnership

G-STEP map

G-STEP is the satellite data solutions service from the University of Leicester that is enabling business and organisations to access and apply complex Earth Observation data in a simple and tailored way. With the establishment of the G-STEP project, the biggest barriers to the wider use of satellite data in the UK (knowledge, ease of access and relevant business solutions) have been addressed. Earth Observation technology is currently underexploited and has the potential to revolutionise business in a similar manner to the information technology expansion.

Here at G-STEP our role is to work in partnership with you to identify your needs and provide you with customised solutions.

G-STEP can help you to access funding opportunities to support development of new applications and assist with partnering to enable access to a European wide market. G-STEP can help you identify and develop new data solutions through our Earth Observation data projects and academic expertise. We can put you in contact with relevant existing Earth Observation companies and public data services where solutions may already be available or easily derived from existing products.

G-STEP provides simple ways of accessing global, national, regional or local datasets on topics as diverse as biomass, air quality, temperature, flood risk, maritime shipping movement and traffic management. These are then made available to you to directly inform your work, or can be embedded in your own commercial products to enhance their functionality.

What is G-STEP?

  • G-STEP is a University of Leicester based knowledge-exchange hub.
  • G-STEP has been set up to support the exploitation of Earth Observation (EO) data and information, supporting business and public sector organisations in the use of EO data.
  • G-STEP will use European Union and European Space Agency (GMES) data and programmes supplied from satellite, aerial and ground based observations.
  • G-STEP will exploit these GMES technologies and the wider R&D base to advance business innovation and competitiveness.
